- I either started to learn english at 8. Now, I wanted to have my english degree at the Strasbourg's university... But It's too hard for me. My professionnal school was an handicap... My level is too low =(
"I also" ; ) Studying English at university is very hard indeed. My teachers told us that there weren't many people who got their first year. My English is very good, but that is something you already have to have when you apply for the license. The hardest is not the language, it's the classes themselves. You have to learn how to analyze literary texts, you have to comment on political articles and thus, you have to know the American or British political system perfectly. Translation is all about strategy and analysis. Grammar is hard as fuck and phonetics are very technical. You get to learn a lot of things but most of the work has to come from you and your ability to think. - I'm a Winner a écrit:
- Hello (: !!
I love talking in english, but perhaps i speak for say nothing, and nobody's understand x)
( and this was i make now )
and too i have a very bad english maybe x) Not "for", but "to". "To" is used to express an intention. "To be here on time, we should go now", "I want to open my window to see the sky" etc. A verb can never NOT have a preposition in this case. Also, "nobody's understand" -> Nobody's (has) understood, it's the present perfect simple, always construed (construit) with the simple past. Aaaand "an idea". It's always "an" before a word that begins with a vowel (voyelle).

| First, I thought I was good ! I always had high marks in all the tests and when I get my secretary-accountant bachelor's degree with 15 and 19 in french, they told me that students who were in professionnal high school couldn't go at the university... But I really wanted to study languages and civilizations so I did it. I missed my first year, But I tried again and I succeeded. Now I'm in the second year and I can't do it anymore...
But I'm proud because I worked really hard and I learnt a lot of things and a lot of languages. Maybe I made a mistake when I chose english-japanese. I was very good in russian and polish...
Now, I don't know what I would do next year u_u". Work as a secretary maybe...
But yes, university is really hard. Too many subjects and too many things to remember. I have a lot of friends who will quit their studies next years :/

| Hi,
I'm really tired today, and I've got english homework, a writting about Do i enjoy reading and why. T-T 250 words, it's hard.
Giiom : "I have never been in ..." is better ^^ And "bientot" is "soon" in English. And for the last sentence, "I hope I didn't make to many mistakes"

| Actually, it's better to say "to" instead of "in" for a country, because it is used for the destination. "I went to..." "I will go to..." etc. | |

It's easy to involve in English. You can read things in English, make traduction, watch films in VO...

Foxface : not involve but "improve" ^^
Pryor, you should at least try to watch movies in English, with French subtitles. The comprehension will eventually come naturally, and your brain will register the words that you hear. Then you will be able to read books. That's how I learned English anyway. That and I've been surfing on English and American websites.

- Shall = Will
C'est un verbe modal pour indiquer le futur, mais c'est plus formel que Will. my english teacher said me, "shall" = an other thing (shall I ...("puis-je" if I Remember but I hesitate because then, is it the same of "may I"?)) but, for the futur my teacher said it's an old form of english rarely used.

| The thing is, "shall" has both functions : it is a word used to illustrate the future, yet it does not literally mean "je vais, je ferai" etc like with "will".
Shall I do my homework ? -> Dois-je faire mes devoirs "plus tard" ? It's an action that you might do later but it actually means "should". "Should I tell him ? Shall I tell him ?" They both mean the same thing.
And "shall" as a future only is indeed rarely used except in a professional way I'd say, like in History books, official papers, etc.
